The 2025 Essentials Drive Delivers For Families In Need
Building industry nonprofit completes 24th Annual Essentials Drive to provide diapers and wipes
Alpharetta – July 17, 2025 – HomeAid Georgia’s 24th Annual Essentials Drive delivered baby items and more for families affected by homelessness just in time for Mother’s Day throughout Metro Atlanta. This year, HomeAid Georgia expanded its reach by extending its Essentials Drive through the Athens Area HBA to benefit the Athens Area Diaper Bank throughout the month of June. Companies, organizations, and countless individuals in metro Atlanta and beyond donated over 246,000 diapers, baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, adult diapers, and more in support of this year’s Essentials Drive. Donations were collected at 21 public drop-off locations or delivered directly to HomeAid via online baby registries.
HomeAid Georgia understands how challenging it can be for families and individuals to provide for their most basic needs when experiencing homelessness. Babies can go through 8-12 diapers a day, and the average monthly cost of diapers for one child is $80. Many families experiencing homelessness, economic hardship, or fleeing domestic violence may improvise to make diapers last longer, changing diapers less often, or even attempting to clean and reuse disposable diapers.
During the week of May 5, volunteers from Pinnacle Financial Partners, Juneau Construction Company, Ameris Bank, Lennar, Starlight Homes, Timberlake Cabinetry helped unload, sort, count, and pack Essentials Drive donations at HomeAid Georgia in Alpharetta. Carter Lumber and Stuart Pro Heating and Air provided box trucks and assistance with delivery.
“There truly aren't enough ways to say thank you to the HomeAid Georgia team for the incredibly generous donation of diapers and wipes. Your generosity brings comfort, relief, and dignity to the families we serve, and we are beyond grateful for your support,” said Paulina Hererra, Wellroot Family Services Volunteer Coordinator.
Several members of the Athens Area Home Builders Association, including Alex Mitchem, LJA Engineering, Karen Griffin, Karen B Griffin Custom Homes, John Newland, JOMA Construction, and Jeremy Myers, with BankSouth, collected items as well throughout the spring and into the summer to donate to the Athens Area Diaper Bank.
“I know you guys know firsthand how much people are really struggling to make ends meet. I’m so glad we’re all on the same team together,” said Athens Area Diaper Bank Executive Director, Erin Campbell, upon receiving 15,000 diapers and wipes from the expanded drive.
HomeAid’s annual effort to provide much-needed essentials to nonprofits serving families with young children experiencing or at risk of homelessness has delivered more than 2.6 million baby items since 2002.
