A 5-Care Day February for HomeAid Georgia

Helping nonprofit organizations serving those experiencing homelessness with free-of-charge repairs

ATLANTA, GA (March 2, 2026) – Celebrating 25 years of building a future without homelessness, HomeAid Georgia marked an especially impactful February by completing five HomeAid Care Days—the most the organization has accomplished in a single month since its founding in 2001. Care Days are hands-on volunteer workdays where teams complete much-needed repairs and improvements, at typically no charge for homeless shelters and service providers based on each organization’s needs. From painting and landscaping to cleaning and small construction projects, these efforts help organizations maintain safe, welcoming spaces for the people they serve.

The month began with HomeAid Georgia’s second Capitol Build Day in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Georgia. Held at Liberty Plaza at the Georgia State Capitol, the event brought together volunteers from Ashton Woods Homes, Billups Homes, Brightwater Homes, HomeTrust Bank, Lennar, Taylor Morrison, Contract Lumber, 2B Nailed Framing, and others to raise awareness about the attainable housing crisis in Georgia. Throughout the day, volunteers worked side by side to frame the walls of a Habitat house. The structure was transported to DeKalb Habitat for Humanity, where it will become part of a future home for a Habitat family.

Later in the month, SEI Group volunteers spent the day at Developmental Disabilities Ministries (DDM) in Marietta preparing their outdoor space for the upcoming growing season. The team built raised garden beds and refreshed the surrounding landscaping, creating an area where residents can plant and tend to their garden in the spring. Ryan Whitmire, President & CEO of DDM expressed, “We’re so grateful to HomeAid Georgia and the volunteers who dedicated their time to serving at the Neff Home. Their support makes a lasting difference for our residents.”

Volunteers from Taylor Morrison also stepped in to support Breakthru House as the organization prepares to expand its facilities for women and their children in recovery. The team cleared out a storage unit filled with construction materials that will be used in two new homes currently being built. Once completed, the homes will add 24 beds for residents. The items that couldn’t be used were donated to Lifecycle Building Center.

The month wrapped up with a two-part Care Day at Shady Grove Church in Marietta, where volunteers from Northview Church tackled improvements to the facility’s flooring. Over the course of two workdays, teams removed damaged flooring, leveled surfaces, painted the concrete, and installed new thresholds throughout the building—helping create a safer, more stable space for the church’s services for their neighbors experiencing homelessness.

With five Care Days completed in just one month, February showcased the power of volunteers coming together to strengthen the organizations serving Georgia’s most vulnerable neighbors.
